Since 1994
Peter & Anong
Samui has changed a great deal since 1994. Peter and Anong are still here.
Peter grew up in Bangkok and came down to Koh Samui about thirty-five years ago, when the island was a very different place — fewer roads, fewer hotels, far fewer restaurants.
In 1994 he and his wife Anong opened their own place, and he gave it her name. She took the kitchen. He took the front of house, and has been standing there ever since, remembering faces.
For the best part of three decades they fed the same mixture of people: Thai families, foreigners who ended up living here, and visitors who came back every year and were quietly annoyed if their usual table was taken.
Then Covid arrived and the restaurant went dark. For a while, people who came looking for Anong simply found it gone. Older listings, old phone numbers and another operator on the premises left a confusing trail online.
In November 2024 Peter and Anong opened the doors again themselves, in Choeng Mon. Same names, same kitchen, same sign.
That is the whole story. There is no concept behind it, no group, no consultant. Two people cook and one of them will greet you at the door.
